What does it mean to be loved?
Do you know that feeling when a boy texts you ‘Good morning’ and ‘Good night’ every day? Or that feeling when he buys you exactly what you had looked at in the display of a showroom? Or even when he takes you out to those fancy places for dinner and insists on paying because he’s such a gentleman? That’s love, right?
So imagine this, it’s a chilly night and you’re going out with your friends in a dress that isn’t very weather-appropriate. Your little sister notices this and gives you her favourite jacket so that you don’t feel too cold.
Or imagine this, you’re at a sleepover and you had promised to be back at 9 in the morning. It’s almost noon and you’re still snoozing. Your mom, who had initially fought with your dad to get you permission to go out in the first place, has called you 15 times only to find your phone switched off. She is worried sick!
Or even still, imagine this, you’re having a rough phase and you feel like it’s the end of the world. You don’t feel like doing anything. Your best friend suddenly shows up at home with a large, double-cheese pizza and starts blabbering about silly things. You somehow, feel better!
Or that one night, your dad sees you working late. He just stands near the door, arms folded in his usual manner, and smiles. You don’t notice him but he notices every little detail of the girl who was once so tiny, she would fit into his palms alone. He smiles at how you’ve made him proud!
What is all of this?
Is this love? Pfftt…absolutely not! So, who cares that you have any of the above. If you don’t have the ‘perfect guy’, nobody loves you! You’re absolutely ugly if there is no boy to tell you otherwise. So what if your mom thinks you’re the most flawless girl in the world?
Today, when you go to bed, just give this a second thought – what does it mean to be loved?
