You’ve helped me grow both, literally and figuratively.
I know writing a letter seems a little old-school in this age of technology and instant messages. But somehow, penning my thoughts is easier than actually standing face to face with you and telling you what you mean to me.
I vividly remember the days of my childhood. You’d push my swing high. Higher than I’d expect at least! But somehow I was never afraid for I knew you would catch me if I fell. I remember how you ran the entire road, holding the seat of the bicycle as I learnt how to ride. And I remember hearing you laugh proudly behind me when I was finally successful.
You taught me the difference between a nail and a screw.
I remember how you taught me how to drive. Even when I crashed your beloved car, you just laughed and said “pay me back when you get a job”. You taught me the difference between a nail and a screw and you taught me how to fix the plumbing.
At times, you even criticized me. In those moments, I would get so angry at you that I would strive to do better just to prove you wrong. It felt exactly like it did when you’d leave the seat of the bicycle. But in the end, I finally learnt how to ride. I finally learnt my full potential and outshone!
I’d like to thank you for everything.
It took me years to realize that underneath that hard exterior of yours lived a man who would do anything to see me smile. It is after all these years that I’ve realized that I studied and worked just to hear you say that you’re proud. And when you finally did, I knew I had succeeded!
In closing, I’d like to thank you for everything. Not only did you give me wings to fly but also gave me that little push forward.
