Since our relationship is coming to an end, it’s time that we sat down and had a little talk.
We’ve spent an interesting year together. There have been moments that I loved and moments that the entire world, collectively lost their minds at. But what I think we can say for sure is that no matter which part of the world one is living in, you were an eventful year for all.
As for me, this was another year of broken promises. Yes! I broke my resolution of cutting down on sugar on the night of 1st January, 2016 itself (in my defence, the chocolate mousse at that little bakery was staring right at me). You were just another year of me saying “I’ll go to the gym from the 1st of January for the rest of the year…maybe 1st of February…1st of November?” But 2017 is a new year. New Year, new beginnings! I promise I’ll go from the 1st of January, 2017.
I thank the younger me who thought of making these resolutions last year.
But not all promises were broken. I had made a silent resolution last year – to forgive people and not hold grudges, to find happiness in the littlest of things and to love myself in every situation. I thank the younger me who thought of making these resolutions last year. My year had never been this calming.
I was calm even through the phase where Donald Trump was elected President. The most influential person on earth today is Donald Trump! Somebody who said ‘grab them by the pussy’! These exact same words. I was calm.
I was a little frustrated and hassled by the Demonetization but I made a new friend while waiting in an ATM queue. I managed to find happiness even in such a time so I think I’m winning at life.
I’m not the person I was at the beginning of you but I’ve changed for good. And if there is anything that you’ve taught me it is ‘change is good’. So there’s just one thing I hope for 2017 and that is it shouldn’t be the same as you.
A new beginner.
