She wakes up with a confused look on her face. The unfamiliar surroundings make her uneasy.
She gets out of bed and walks into the nearest room, the kitchen. He takes one look at her and the wrinkles on her forehead talk for her. He laughs lovingly, flipping the omelet.
He – “Good morning, darling.”
She – “Who are you and where am I?”
He – “You’re my wife and we’ve been married for 30 years. Our son is married and settled down. Our daughter is in law school. You have a little trouble remembering details but that’s no problem, I’m here to remind you everything. Breakfast is ready, baby.”
Almost every morning passed this way and his patience grew like his love. Their relationship strengthened, thanks to her Alzheimer’s. And then one day,
He – (lying on the bed, his breathing was ragged) Honey, could you do me a favor?
She – “I’ll do anything for you, you know that.”
He – “There’s a CD in your drawer. Keep it safely.”
She – “What’s on it?”
He – “A video of me explaining every detail of our lives. Watch it every morning, will you?”
She – (with tears in her eyes) “And here I was wondering what I would do without you.”
Him – “Promise me something…”
She – “What?”
Him – “That you’ll never forget that you’re a miracle.”
Years passed and that was the only thing she did remember.
