He looked at the clock as she knocked. 2 a.m.!
This was the third day in a row where she had stayed out until so long. He had to put his foot down today!
But he forgot everything the moment she stepped foot inside. She was drenched from head to toe in the raging storm and rain outside. Her eyes, bloodshot red!
He rushed her inside and started drying her off. How silly could she be to get this soaked!
When she was finally dry, he sat her down and came with two cups of steaming tea. Gladly, she accepted the cup for the few seconds of warmth it gave!
He – So, do you want to tell me what’s going on?
She was quiet for a long time but when she spoke, her voice cracked as she held back tears.
She – What am I going to do without him?
He – You will have to manage, won’t you? He’s happy with her now but I’m sure he’ll never forget you!
She looked at him with hope overflowing in her eyes.
She – Do you really think so?
He – Of course! So, you’ll have to learn to live without him now.
She – But…
He – Was it easy letting him go?
She – No.
He – Was it worth it?
She thought for a while longer and a tear slyly escaped from her eye as she spoke.
She – Totally!
He – Then you have to get yourself together. You have to accept the fact that he’s married now and has his own family. He can’t just be your annoying elder brother anymore. He has a home to take care of, sweetheart!
She smiled as her father kissed her forehead and wiped away another tear.
