She had tried becoming a part of his life but always failed.
She knew he had loved somebody else before her. He had loved her with his all and they had lived happily for quite some years. But she had left abruptly. Not even a goodbye!
Ever since, he had rightfully kept himself closed! He didn’t allow himself to love anyone else as he had once done.
But what was her mistake? Why did she have to bear the weight of someone else’s faults? She had given him her all. She had loved him with her all! How could he not notice?
Today was just another day. She had cooked him his favourite breakfast and had eagerly waited for him to wake up. He entered the kitchen a while later, picked up a fruit from the table and left. She couldn’t take it anymore.
Determined, she walked up to him.
She – I had made you breakfast.
He looked at her with a hint of confusion on his face.
He – Don’t try taking her place.
She – But after all these years? I love you.
He – I love…
She (eagerly) – go on…
He – her!
And he looked at the picture on the wall with a garland hung on it. The woman in the picture smiled at him.
He had loved her and yet hated her for leaving. How could she have left him alone like this?
He looked back at the woman standing in front of him with tears in her eyes. She couldn’t take her place. She never would!
There’s a reason why a step-mother is called a ‘step’-mother!
