He had always boasted about the contributions he had done for organisations for young and talented children!
This was just another day in his life.
He sat there in the living room of his penthouse with a few of the country’s most respectable people, casually sipping wine and talking loftily.
He – Everybody has dreams and of varied interests. I have one and one only – to do good to children who have bright minds but empty pockets.
The people around him murmured and nodded in agreement.
He smiled slightly and continued.
He – In fact just last week I made a rather large contribution to the biggest NGO of the country but you see, I don’t like to boast about it. I like to keep my contributions anonymous.
And the people around looked at him in awe.
He – I believe children are the future of the world and if their minds are bright, the future is bright. Children are indeed God’s gifts. Oh, how would you like another round of wine and appetizers? Just a moment…Tina, TINA!
A girl not more than 13 years old wearing a dirty frock with holes in it came running. She looked shabby and out of place. A dirty mark of the white, spotless floors of the mansion!
She – Yes, Sir?
He looked at her in disgust and spoke softly so that only she could hear.
He – I shouldn’t have to raise my voice again. Get another round of wine and appetizers. But first clear this mess.
And she got to work. Meanwhile he regained his composure and started talking in his airy tone again.
He – So, I was saying, everyone has dreams…
She (whispers to herself) – But not everybody has a reality check.
She cleaned the mess, served them their refreshments and went back to the kitchen.
There she sat at the usual spot on the floor, opened her geography book and started reading again!
